A Century of Welcome
This year marks a significant milestone—100 years of the Society of African Missions (SMA) at Dromantine. Since 1926, Dromantine has been a place of faith, learning, and welcome, opening its doors to all who seek peace, purpose, and connection.
When the SMA first acquired Dromantine House and its surrounding estate, it became a centre for missionary formation in Ireland. For nearly fifty years, generations of seminarians lived, studied, and prayed here before going on to serve communities across Africa and beyond. Their commitment and spirit of service continue to shape the character and legacy of Dromantine today.
In the years that followed, Dromantine evolved into a thriving retreat and conference centre, offering a space for reflection, dialogue, and hospitality. While its role has grown and adapted over time, its core mission remains unchanged—to provide a place of welcome, peace, and renewal for all.
As we celebrate a century of SMA presence at Dromantine, we give thanks to all who have been part of its story—priests, staff, volunteers, and visitors—and look forward to continuing this tradition of mission, hospitality, and hope into the future.
